Finance and Quant Society (FQS) is a free, student-run club for learning finance and quant, and a fiscally sponsored project of The Hack Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are a small team, not a data company, so we collect as little as we can and we do not sell anything. This page explains, in plain English, what we keep and why. If something here is unclear, email us at financeandquantsociety@gmail.com and we will explain it.
When you make an account and use the site, we store:
We do not store payment information. The site is free, and if you choose to donate, the payment is handled by our fiscal sponsor and its providers, not by us. We do not collect your home address or phone number. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your data to anyone. There is no marketing profile of you.
We use your data to run the site and nothing sneaky. That means letting you log in, saving your progress, running the leaderboards and badges, powering connections, sending the emails below, keeping accounts secure, and understanding how the site is used so we can make it better.
We use one cookie to keep you logged in. We use your browser's local storage for small conveniences, like remembering a paused Trading Floor round or a banner you dismissed. We keep light, mostly aggregated analytics on how the site is used. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
A few trusted providers process data on our behalf so the site can work. They are only allowed to use it to provide their service to us:
Some pages also load content straight from other companies, and when they do, your browser talks to them directly and their own privacy terms apply. These include TradingView for live charts and the ticker, market and economic data from sources like FRED (the Federal Reserve), Yahoo Finance, and Financial Modeling Prep, and an AI provider (DeepSeek) that generates the short daily market read. We do not send these providers your account details.
FQS is fiscally sponsored by The Hack Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donations to us are tax-deductible in the United States. If you donate, the payment is processed by The Hack Foundation and its payment providers. Your card details go to them, not to us, and we never see or store your full payment information. We may receive basic details like your name, email, and the amount so we can thank you and keep records.
There are two kinds. Account emails, like a welcome note and password resets, come with having an account. Update emails, like an occasional weekly summary, are optional. You can turn those off anytime with the unsubscribe link in the email or in your Settings, and you will still get the account ones.
We keep your data while your account exists. If you want your account and data deleted, email us and we will remove it. Copies may sit in routine backups or logs for a short time before they cycle out. You can also update or correct most of your information yourself in Settings.
You can update your profile, change your username, unsubscribe from update emails, ask us what we have on file, or ask us to delete your account. Just reach out and we will help.
FQS is built for high schoolers and is meant for people who are at least 13. If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian is fine with you using it. The site is not intended for children under 13, and if we learn that we have an account for someone under 13, we will remove it.
We hash passwords, serve the site over HTTPS, and lock accounts for a while after repeated failed logins. No online service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and let us know if you ever notice anything odd with your account.
As the site grows we may update this page. The date at the top will change, and for anything significant we will try to give members a heads up. Using the site after an update means you are okay with the current version.
